Do you remember Magic 8 Balls?
All you had to do was give the ball of fortune a shake, ask a yes/no question and within seconds you can find out if you’re going to pass a test, go on a date or win the lottery.
I wish it were that easy…
I sometimes want God to be my Magic 8 Ball.
Quick and immediate answers from God to all my pressing questions.
“God, will my 13 year old cause me to start to drink?”
Reply hazy, try again.
“Will I ever be skinny?”
Outlook not so good.
Will Jason and I travel the world?
I have seen so many people this past week who have hearts that are hurting.
I’ve seen friends dealing with a tragic death that took a loved one way too soon.
Ones reeling from a job loss.
Another who’s feeling crushing disappointment from a child’s unfortunate decisions.
One friend experiencing a crumbling relationship.
Another who’s child feels left out and excluded…
broken hearts come in so many shapes.
John 16 says, “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.”
Psalm 147 promises us that “the Lord heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.”
I found this artist through my morning devotions on She Reads Truth.
Today’s devotion just confirmed what the Lord had laid on my heart.
“But God’s promises—to love us, to fight for our good, to never leave—are hinged on His current character and constant devotion. We can only hope to be consistent; He is constant.”
So take heart.
Take it to the Lord, no matter how shattered, how hopeless, how angry, or how fear filled it is.
Take heart and allow Him to bind it up.
You’ll find God, right in the middle of our hurting heart because He is near you, He will not forsake you, and He will never leave you.
So when you find yourself asking,
“God, will you always be by my side?”
“Will my heart ever heal?”
And without needing a Magic 8 ball, He answers confidently,
Without a doubt.
