Rescue Mission

This Sunday we had a special guest ministers, Tiffany and JJ Johnson.
The names alone may not ring a bell until I mention them in conjunction with “shark attack.”
Tiffany was, in fact, the lady who lost her arm in a horrifying shark attack in the Bahamas.
Her in-laws go to our church and it was such an amazing blessing to hear their testimony.
Despite the fact that she lost her arm, God was behind the scenes orchestrating every piece.

During praise and worship, before they began ministering, one song made me particularly emotional.
I’ve posted it before because it is truly one of my favorites, but oh wow, it is so powerful.
“No Longer Slaves” wrecks me every time but the perfect storm of me standing feet from Tiffany praising the Lord with half an arm raised in the air was my undoing.
Especially this part…

You split the sea so I could walk right through it,
my fears are drowned in perfect love.
You rescued me and I will stand and sing
I am a child of God.
You all.
Because she has teeth marks on her shoulder, she literally was face to face with a shark.
In that moment of overwhelming worship, I had the images of God splitting the sea, as she swam through her own blood, part of her body forever missing.
I had the images, because of her testimony, that she was swimming through her fears because God was drowning them in His perfect love.
I had the images of His mighty hand holding back all further harm so she could literally stand and sing.
She is.  A child.  Of God.
Come, Lord Jesus.
And even before the enemy could steal that precious moment where God was speaking to me, I felt God say,
“You too Jill.
I’ve split seas for you too.
Seas of fear, doubt, worry, condemnation, depression, anxiety, criticism.
I’ve drowned your fears in My perfect love.
I’ve rescued you from the prison of yourself, so you can stand and sing.
You are my child.”
That was it.
I couldn’t stand in His presence anymore.
I don’t have a testimony like Tiffany.
And that’s okay.
You may not either.
But that doesn’t mean ours is less important.
A lyric from the Toby Mac song, “Light Shine Bright” says, “I wanna magnify Your light.  I wanna reflect the sun”
And I thought, “YES!”
Everything I do, say and represent should reflect Him.
Everything you do, say and represent should magnify Him.
We don’t need a tragedy for us to do those things.
We don’t need a huge platform to make a difference.
Do not allow the enemy to diminish your testimony because it’s not “powerful enough” or “tragic.”
Never down play the things God is doing in your life.
Big or small.
They all add up in His kingdom.
What an amazing opportunity God has given the Johnsons to magnify and glorify Him.
People have run ins with sharks all the time.
They are a headline and then disappear into history.
Thankfully the Johnsons are making a kingdom impact with their testimony.

God’s on a rescue mission for you too.
Or has He already and you don’t realize it?
Your rescue may not put you on the 5 o’clock news, but what you do with it could change someone’s life.
For eternity.
