Can you smell it? It’s finally here. My favorite time of year.
I may or may not have gone into teaching for the school supplies. Just kidding.
I DO love me a Back to School flyer and I DO get a rush when I see stores putting them out.
And I confess.
I do ask for brightly Sharpies as stocking stuffers…
I LURVE this time of year. And I absolutely LOVE my job.
What other profession allows you a New Years Eve twice a year?!
With August and new backpacks, fresh haircuts, and clean shoes also comes a new lease on life. A chance to start over. A brand new beginning.
August brings fresh faces and high hopes.
“This year, I’m going to do better. Make better grades, make new friends, never miss school…”
But as August turns into September and then December slides into March, my prayer is that the newness and excitement never wears off. I pray that as tiredness and frustration and disappointment sets in I always go to Him. My source of strength and hope.
This prayer really covers all of life, see. The check out lady at the store, the neighbor, the family member, students. You just fill in your blank…
Lord, help me to see these children as your children.
To love them like you do.
Love them like I love my own.
Remind me that the boy across my desk is someone’s baby.
Someone’s first born.
Someone’s miracle child.
The one they prayed for.
Let me never forget that the home they go to each night may look totally different from mine.
And that their bad attitude or non-compliance may come from experiences that I don’t understand.
Let me show the grace and mercy that you have lavished on me.
Show me the ones who may never feel the love of a parent or hear kind words.
Lead me to those who need extra love and extra kind words.
Help me to love and support and pray for my children’s teachers.
To remember that they too have ‘stuff’ and need love from me.
Help me to extend love to the students and coworkers who I may not want to.
Help me, above lesson plans and meetings and to do lists…
to above all else
Always. Choose. Love
