Tuesday: Jump In

So, we’ve been there.
On both sides of the fence.
I’ve been the one offering help and sometimes getting rejected.
I’ve also been the one who refused help because I allowed the voice of the enemy rooted in pride to push away the hand of God.
Sadly, I’ve also been the one who’s eyes cut someone to bits with judgment and condemnation.
Lord forgive me.

Instead of allowing pride and fear to rule my heart and mind, I’ve made a promise to myself that I’m going to use my gifts to not tear others down with a spirit of comparison and judgement.
Instead, I’m going to build others up.
Even if it means they don’t accept it.
2 Timothy 1:7 in the Amplified says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

So let’s Jump In:
Think about your circle of influence.
The people on a day to day who you can impact…negatively or positively.
When you are thinking about your ministry, don’t put God in a box.
He is able to use you in huge ways that don’t require being on the payroll at your church.
In fact, that is more like what God was thinking when Jesus was commanding His disciples to “go into all the world, preaching the good news of the gospel.”
It certainly didn’t say, “go into your local church and sit on a pew and hoard up sermon after sermon while those around you are suffering.”
Using your place in the body of Christ, using your strengths (to love, to serve, to encourage) your talents (to sew, to sing, to dig a ditch, to build) how can you reach out to minister God’s love to someone?
Even if they reject you?
I have people I encounter every single day whom you will never come across.
I have friends who sit behind a desk all day and check people into a doctor’s office, answer phone calls, deal with everyone from professional doctors to professional addicts.
I will never cross their path.  My friend’s mission field is there.
I have another friend who is a manager of a local restaurant and has hundreds of people come through her drive-thru.
That’s her mission field.
When she wants to throw a bag of food at someone because the 16 year old trainee keeps getting in her way and screwing up the cash register…she digs deep.
She digs deep into the reserves of grace and mercy that God has shown her over the years and pours it out on the people around her.
People you will never encounter in your day to day.
So draw your circle.
Who is around you that you can influence for the glory of God?
I’ll admit….some people in my circle are much easier to love than others.
And that’s okay.
Someday’s I’m not easy to love either.
I’m convinced though that by me focusing on my circle of influence, and you focusing on yours, the circle of the Kingdom of God will grow beyond our wildest dreams.
These are after all, our brothers and sisters.

I’m a book-shelving, former tap dancer, wanna be writer, singer,
and banjo player, mother of 4, wife of 1, follower of Christ,
walking in the shadow of the Proverbs 31 woman
and redeemed by the grace and love of an Almighty God…
just living the dream.
